Rocket Yoga.
Teacher Training in Norwich with Amber Jean

We are excited to host a long-time student of Larry Schulz, Amber Jean, a.k.a. “Rocket Girl,” here in Norwich, UK, for a variety of opportunities to learn something new, deepen your practice, connect with others, and strengthen your teaching skills.

What is the Rocket?

Rocket Yoga is a vigorous yet playful vinyasa yoga practice created by Larry Schultz for the Grateful Dead. Bob Weir named this rebellious remix of the rigid Ashtanga series “Rocket” because “it gets you there faster.” The Rocket is a physically challenging yet playful practice that allows plenty of freedom and creativity.

Who is Amber Jean?

Amber Jean is the founder of Rocket Yoga Academy and her studio in Cincinnati Yoga ah. She was one of the first rocket yoga instructors in the United States after graduating her first teachers training with Larry Schultz, the founder of Rocket yoga, in May 2000. She has also studied classical ashtanga with Tim Miller, Lino Miele, and Chuck and Maty Miller. She credits Larry Schultz with being her most influential teacher. She trained with him at It's Yoga San Francisco, where she earned her 200 RYT and was introduced to the Rocket. Once she met Larry she veered away from the traditional Ashtanga practice and adopted Rocket Yoga sequencing as her main practice and teaching.

Upon graduation she went into teaching Ashtanga and Rocket full time in Cincinnati. In 2007 she opened her own yoga studio, Yoga Ah, which featured the rocket system as taught by Larry Schultz. Amber Jean-Marie began assisting Larry in his rocket training intensives and after 10 years with Larry he granted her to lead her own rocket training before he passed in 2011.

She is known as a teacher of teachers and brings over 23 years experience teaching and facilitating training.

Testimonials

  • “I think what makes Amber such an incredible teacher is her commitment to her personal practice. She teaches from an authentic, lived experience from her own mat. She sees potential in her students and has the ability to gently guide students into postures they may have thought were impossible. Her depth of knowledge of classical Ashtanga, the Rocket system, and restorative practices make her classes very well balanced—they are informative, challenging, and therapeutic. Her presence is very grounding, and her gentle way of being keeps the practice joyful, playful and not competitive at all—a difficult feat in a lineage known for challenging postures and transitions! I always leave her trainings feeling inspired, not just in my personal practice, but in my teaching, and I feel fortunate to learn from someone who worked so closely with Larry Schulz."

  • "Training with Amber Jean has been one of the most meaningful and enriching experiences of my yoga journey. From the very first session, Amber created a space that felt safe, intentional, and deeply nurturing. Her presence is both grounding and uplifting as she brings a balance of wisdom, compassion, and lightheartedness into her teaching. Each class felt like a gentle unfolding, where I not only grew stronger in my physical practice but also connected more deeply with myself. Amber has an incredible gift for meeting each student where they are, offering just the right encouragement or insight when it's needed most. Her ability to weave together the physical, philosophical, and spiritual elements of yoga is something special. I’m so grateful for the time I spent training with Amber, and it continues to inspire me every day. Anyone who has the opportunity to work with her is in for a transformational experience."

  • Many thanks for the Awesome Rocket Training! It was great to have the opportunity to learn more about Larry Schultz's Rocket yoga philosophy, practice teaching Rocket, Rocket transitions, giving adjustments to students, and learning to focus more on breath, bandhas, and drishti. Emersons Rocket Training jump started the growth in my personal practice. It was really helpful doing different versions of Rocket and/or Bottle Rocket every day, sometimes multiple times a day, for the entire week (with a few extra classes before/after the Training). I made more progress in one week at Rocket Training that would have taken many months of practicing at home. I was fortunate enough to attend one of Larry's classes when he was in Cincinnati (2005) and in my opinion, you definitely exude Larry's spirit in your Emerson's Rocket Training.
