Reach out and touch: The Art of Adjustments and Assists Pt 1 & 2

Learn how to offer physical touch in yoga. With Abby Hoffmann

February 7th 1-6pm

March 7th Pt 2

Are you a yoga teacher who wants to feel more confident using touch as a teaching tool? Did your teacher training leave you unsure about how to offer safe, effective hands-on adjustments?

Then this training/CPD is for you!

Join Abby, an experienced Yoga Elder with many years of teaching and mentoring behind her. With her roots in the Ashtanga Vinyasa tradition—where assists/adjustments are a primary method of communication—and qualifications in deep tissue and Thai Yoga Massage, Abby brings a unique blend of technical skill, bodywork expertise, and compassionate guidance to this training.

In these 2 5-hour practical workshops, you’ll learn the foundations of hands-on assisting so you can offer supportive, intelligent, and confidence-building adjustments in class. You’ll also develop your ability to read different body types and adapt to common situations such as hypermobility and SI joint sensitivity.

What We’ll Cover in Pt 1

  • How to use your body weight efficiently (rather than pushing or pulling)

  • Body reading, how to spot and work with common postural patterns and skeleton variation

  • Safe and appropriate touch: principles, consent, and good practice

  • Basic biomechanics and movement principles

  • Bodywork fundamentals inspired by Thai massage and acupressure

“I completed my first 200 Hour teaching diploma with Abby in Cambridge in 2010. During that time I found Abby to be a fantastic and knowledgeable teacher and mentor, with endless energy and encouragement for her students. Her understanding of yoga asana, anatomy, movement and hands-on assists was clearly demonstrated with no question ever too difficult for her to answer..”

About your Trainer Abby Hoffmann

With a lifelong passion for movement and embodiment, Abby Hoffmann brings over 3 decades of experience as both as a dancer and senior yoga teacher. Prior to becoming a full-time yogi, Abby worked as a performer, teacher, and choreographer before immersing herself fully in the practice and teaching of yoga in the late 1990s.

Abby has been teaching yoga for nearly 29 years and practising for even longer. She trained with Yoga Campus (formerly The Life Centre Education) and continues to deepen her knowledge through extensive workshops and intensives with leading teachers around the world. Her studies have taken her to Mysore, India, where she practised traditional Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga with the late SK Pattabhi Jois.

Dedicated to lifelong learning, Abby is committed to ongoing professional development and to supporting the next generation of yoga teachers. She has been training yoga teachers since 2008 starting at CamYoga and other leading UK institutions. In 2012, she founded Embodied Dancer — a pioneering, dance-specific yoga teacher training programme that has successfully trained multiple cohorts of students. Abby also collaborated with senior UK teachers including Caroline Gill, Dina Cohen, Mark Freeth, and Christopher Gladwell to deliver advanced 300-hour trainings and specialist workshops.

Abby holds a BA in Dance Studies (Middlesex University), an MSc in Dance Science (Trinity Laban Conservatoire), and a PhD in Yoga and the Dancer (Middlesex University) — reflecting her deep fascination with science, movement, and embodied practice.

In 2024, she founded Yantra Studio in Norwich, UK, where she teaches public classes, private sessions, and CPD (Continuing Professional Development) for yoga teachers.

She is a Yoga Alliance USA YACEP Trainer and Continuing Education Provider. Abby provides mentorship for trainee and new teachers through her studio Programme The Spark
