The Spirit (and Art) of Vinyasa Flow yoga.
What is Vinyasa Flow Yoga? - where does it originate from?
How can I be more creative when sequencing classes?
How can I use music artfully in class - to uplift, enliven or soothe?
How can I introduce bandhas, chakras, koshas and vayus (subtle practices) in a seamless and integrated fashion?
Come and find out the answers to these (and other) questions on this one day workshop aimed at teachers who'd like to know more about the contemporary yoga style known as Vinyasa Flow Yoga.
Often vinyasa flow yoga is associated with a fast-paced and sun-salutation-based type of class. However, this is not the whole story. To be 'in the flow' does not mean doing a thousand up dog down dog chaturanga's.. The basis of the Sanskrit word 'vinyasa' translates loosely as 'to place in a special or logical way' and Vinyasa Flow yoga is characterised by intelligent thoughtful sequencing from an energetic and anatomical/biomechanical perspective.
As a teacher of Vinyasa Flow classes you become like an artist or technician, creating yoga practices for your students that involve, focus and inspire.
A variety of tools are at your disposal, asana (postures), pranayamas (breathing practices), bandhas, koshas and vayus (the subtle body aspects of yoga) and in this workshop we will explore these and other components of a fully-realised yoga practice.
Flow is also a state of mind, The 'Zone' as definted by Hungarian psychologist Mihaly Csíkszentmihályi, is being 'fully immersed in a feeling of energized focus, full involvement, and enjoyment in the process of the activity'. In essence, Flow is characterized by complete engagement in what one does. This is what we hope our yoga classes evoke, a feeling of harmonious absorption.
BUT...
To enter 'the Flow' we must do several things.
Create and Curate yoga practices that take the students on a complete journey - the 'arc' of the class
+
Include a balance of skill, challenge and action-awareness merge
Offer counter-posture and pause....
This one-day workshop will offer an introduction to Vinyasa Flow yoga and give participants the chance to experiment with ideas for class themes and sequencing.
The workshop will count for CEU hours with Yoga Alilance USA
Teachers from all styles and backgrounds are welcome, but to get the most of the content you should have around a year's teaching experience already.
